60 DIY Christmas Ornaments For a Truly One-of-a-Kind Tree
Save money and create memories as you make these homemade baubles.
Danielle Daly
As you and your family start decorating your Christmas tree, you may find that a lot of your ornaments are store-bought and/or are looking a little less festive than you'd like. And since Christmas is all about creating traditions, and baubles are often a great way to pass down stories from one generation to the next, 2021 might be the time that you decide that DIY Christmas ornaments are the way to go.
Whether you want something truly unique to make your tree stand out, or you're looking for an easier craft (like salt-dough ornaments) that you can do with the kids, there's a homemade idea on our list that will be perfect for your family. And many of them use items you likely already have in your house (think: sprinkles, glitter, yarn). If your tree is more elegant, we've got an idea for that. Really retro? Yep, there's something for you. Seriously, the options or endless.
As you explore the ideas below, don't be afraid to put your own spin on these handmade Christmas ornaments — the more personalized, they are the better. And soon enough they'll become some of your family's favorite pieces to put on the tree each year.

Reindeer Ornament
On a gold ornament, paint two circles of white where they overlap for an area for the eyes and let dry. Paint two black dots for eyes in the center of the two white circles and let dry. Paint a black (or red for Rudolph) nose in the center where the two white circles meet and add a little mouth shape underneath the nose and let dry. Attach the twig antlers to the top of the ornament with hot glue. Cut out a triangle ear shape from brown construction paper and bend inwards slightly and put a thin line of hot glue right in front of the twig antler and glue down.
